Maintaining Fresh Air & Air Movement In The Workplace This Winter

One of the many impacts of Covid-19 this year, has been the greater emphasis placed on improving the quality of the air we breath.

As we approach Winter, now is the time to assess and implement any measures required to improve the air quality to help mitigate the future spread of airborne viruses and pollutants in your workplace.

The UK Health & Safety Executive recently published their guidance on the use of air conditioning and the necessity of adequate ventilation during the Coronavirus outbreak.  Click here to read.

Their statement advises that whilst the risk of spreading the virus through air conditioning is extremely low, as long as there is an adequate supply of fresh air and ventilation, to prevent the spread of the virus and keep you and your colleagues healthy.

Furthermore, in recent Government guidance on how to work safely in offices and contact centres during the Coronavirus outbreak, the message again is clear, to keep safe and reduce the risk of transmitting the virus, ensure there is adequate ventilation to provide sufficient fresh air supply to all areas of the workspace when occupied.

The necessity for employers to ensure there is an adequate supply of fresh air in the workplace is nothing new.Government Building Regulations have long stated that we all should have a supply of at least 10 litres of fresh air per person every second.

Providing Adequate Ventilation During Winter

The most practical steps taken by many employers this past Summer has been to open doors and windows to help increase and circulate fresh air supply.

However, as we approach Winter, more of us spend more time indoors and opening doors and windows may not be a practical solution once the outside temperature drops.

Mechanical Ventilation

Compared to natural forms of ventilation I.e. opening doors and windows, mechanical ventilation is a more effective practical alternative to help reduce the risk of Coronavirus spreading in your workspace this Winter.
